Beginnings...

Four years ago I met my husband and we began our life together, and today Dawn from the Census Bureau asked us 100 questions to sum up our lives together.  Monthly expenses, gift purchases, how many bathrooms we have???  We were supposed to represent 2500 households, but as we answered questions about furniture, clothing, craft supplies and cleaning products I felt anything but average.  Anyone who knows us is aware that we spend a lot of time on DIY projects, bargain hunting, gardening, decorating and trying to live an eco-friendly lifestyle.  Dawn was surprised by many of our answers and curious about others...


"You bought HOW MANY headboards in July???"
"Do we qualify those pillows as decorative or craft items...OH they were used in a dog bed?  Can I see it?"
"In my five years with the census I've never heard that!"
 "New jeans for $5?"
"YOU MADE THAT?!?!!"


She was impressed with our home and commented several times on how fun we were to talk to.  I'm sure that census work can be boring and monotonous but she made it interesting and enjoyable.


When we go to a garage sale or the ReStore, we see items that are used in everyday life....a beat up chair, railings from a banister, discarded dressers and doors - nothing special.  With a little paint, some imagination and sweat we make those boring everyday items into something completely different and interesting...we give those discarded items a new beginning.

So cute, but I still need to rough it up a bit.

So is it the everyday things that make up our lives, or is life about taking the everyday things and creating something interesting?


Dawn finished up the survey by asking when we would be available to meet again in November, and we couldn't give her any straight answer other than to ring our doorbell and hope for the best  We seem to always be running in fifty different directions, and of all the questions on her survey that answer probably told her the most about us.


So did those 100 questions sum up anything about my life?  Probably not.  Want to know something that does?  Four years ago, I met a little baby named Tess; today I taught her how to ride a bike.  Isn't life cool?
