MMmmmmm zucchini bread...
After finishing the projects, running all over town, baking a few loaves of bread, grocery shopping, froze 3 casseroles, laundry and cleaning the garage - we are wiped out! It feels good to snuggle up on the couch with my laptop...and the Jersey Housewives.
First was this bench. We have donated a few items to a Salvage Art Auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity. They have been collecting the items at the ReStore, and I wanted to donate since we buy so many great supplies out there. I made a little shutter decoration and we also a bench.
When we went to the ReStore on Saturday, we found a few items that were not priced and found the cashier to help us. She asked if we were the people who made art for the salvage art show, when we said "yes" she was so excited. She asked if we could make a piece of art for her and told us how much she liked our bench we donated. We were flattered and when she told us that everyone asks about our pieces and they were the "talk of the ReStore" we asked her if she would distribute business cards for us. She said she wanted to buy our bench at the auction, but didn't know if she could afford the winning bid, so we offered to make her one for a good price...the pictured bench went to her. We didn't make it as fancy as we normally would since she was on a tight budget, but she loved it! It probably doesn't look like much now, but part of the deal was that we could do it for really cheap if she painted it herself (she was excited to have a fun project, too).
Here's what a headboard bench can look like completely finished.
Isn't it pretty?
It's also for sale :)
Who wants it?
It's actually the first project we ever made together...I love it. I wish we had space for it, but our house is just too full! Below is the start of a bench that will have arms on it.
Ugly old headboard...
Half done paint job...the head and footboard will be painted white and the seat and supports will be stained an espresso color.
Stay tuned. I am way excited for this one.
While Aaron was busy hammering away on benches, I had this side project to keep me busy.
I had all these scraps, that I pieced, glued and nailed together...
...and made them into....
Candlesticks :)
I will have to take a picture of them all staged with candles and decorations in my house.
They turned out great! Any takers?
We found the supplies and finished this chest, too.
I already have a request to make another one, both parties requesting these are using them as a toybox.
It's made out of a pair of solid bi-fold doors.
It was easier than I thought, but there was enough measuring and math to make both of our brains hurt.
This is the other bench we made...obviously not completed as I'm not sure what I want to do with the paint/finish.
If anyone wants it, speak up quickly and we will talk color/finish.
I think I am going to have Aaron make a gallery or something on here where I can upload photos of items for sale. If you are ever interested in something we have made, want something custom, or have a piece you want repurposed please don't hesitate to ask!
We had an interesting find at the ReStore...these are huge banisters or something, usually they don't have a set of four, so we snatched them up! We want to paint them a crisper white and use them as the legs on a butcher block island and possibly add casters to it.
It will look similar to this, but we have no plans (yet) to enclose any part under the butcher block and frame...
Need something like this in your kitchen?
2 completed benches
3 loaves of zucchini bread
4 candlesticks
1 toychest
3 casseroles
1 clean garage
1 dog bathed :)
We are exhausted...
Just looking at all these projects makes me tired all over again...good thing we have R&R on the itinerary for next weekend! We are taking off from Friday night to Wednesday night for an anniversary adventure...I am so excited to have 5 days with just us two! I will have great photos to share! What are your plans for Labor Day weekend?
Noelle
